When I painted this I was thinking about the symbolism used in Renaissance art, especially in relation to the virgin Mary. I wanted to apply some of those ideas to a modern version, where the Madonna worships the wealth and power which comes from her position as CEO of a mining company. She is praying with her bible (aka laptop) open before her.
